The Page Content Management System (pCMS) from HirMon & Associates is included in all new websites we create and is available as a retrofit add-on to existing sites. It designed with three primary goals in mind:
To allow website owners to make changes to the information shown on existing pages of their own website without special software or skills.
Avoid the needless complexity of similar systems that claim to allow owners to update their own site only to find out that there are severe restrictions on what can actually be done.
Avoid forcing a website owner into a pre-packaged display that either part of the update program or a separate stand-alone process. Our pCMS system is designed to work within any conventional website design, which prevents sacrificing the quality of the site?s design for the sake of being able to update it.
pCMS can be retrofitted into most conventional websites created by other design agencies. There is no limitation on the number of web pages than can be updated by pCMS (one minimum, no upper limit).
How does it work? Have you ever used Blog software? Do you have any experience with a word processor like Word/Perfect? That’s how it works...
To (possibly) forestall a few emails, please note:
All information entered into pCMS and displayed to visitors is 100% search engine compatible.
An example of how a website owner can change the text contents of a web page is available on this site by clicking here. (Opens in a new window; close to return to this page.)
The support tools that are built into pCMS include:
- Full online image management system, including the ability to upload images without having to resize them beforehand. (Assuming the web host has the appropriate facilities available for use by pCMS.)
- Multiple page handling; no limit.
- Built-in onscreen help and tutorial.
- Extensive text editing and formatting capabilities.
Program limitations:
Item 1: The pCMS system is not an online web page design program. It functions solely to allow website owners (or their designated agents) to update the contents of pre-existing web pages.
To help you understand what that statement means, think of a web page as a picture on the wall:
- The "frame" holding the picture is the web page design.
- The text and illustrations that make up the contents of the page are the photograph in the frame.
pCMS only allows you to change the text and illustrations, but not the frame.
On this page, that means that only the information at the top of the page The Page Content Management System (pCMS)... through the last line below can be changed with pCMS, but the rest of the page is "fixed." (Yes, this page is maintained through pCMS as installed on this site.)
Item 2: pCMS is designed and intended to update only one (1) major section of information on a web page (regardless of the number of pages). Complex pages made up of lot of different "blocks" of information are not supported.
This means that if a page has 2 or more sections of a page that display different kinds of information, the pCMS system cannot be used to update them. However -
- If the information in a block is static and rarely changes, the pCMS system can be used to update the main contents of the page.
- If necessary other programs can be used to update as many blocks as might appear on a page.
- In one (or more) "blocks" of information can be assembled into a table-like format, all information on a page can be updated through pCMS.
Installation and setup of pCMS is a case-by-case situation and only a site review will indicated if installtion of pCMS on a site will handle exceptional conditions.
